Growing Cucumbers vertically ! Growing -Pruning - watering - Fertilizing Tips #greentgarden
One of best way for growing cucumbers to get the maximum production in less time Right at home.
Growing cucumbers vertically upward on the string. trellis is one of the best ways to save space.
Pruning two to three lower leaves at the bottom helps prevent less bugs and disease..
To get a faster production, you have to remove at least 1 to 2 ft of the Cucumbers side shoots also known as the sucker , which is located between the main stem and the leaf. but be careful , besides shoots is behind normally in front, you'll find a male or female flower. do not remove those..
Water cucumber plants every 1 to 2 days .
Fertilizer cucumber Plants every 2 weeks to keep it healthy..
Make sure to harvest on time so you don't slow down the production. Harvest your cucumbers anyway from 5 to 8 in Harvest before your cucumbers are turning white..

    How many watermelons will grow from just one vine if I prune off the side shoots?

    • @Greentgarden
      @Greentgarden 19 годин тому

      Maybe 1 to 3 ... I noticed last year that not all of my side shoots produce watermelon . Some of them produce just a lot of male flowers.. If you have a longer garden season you could let it grow, especially if you have space in your garden.. If you have a short garden season I would definitely prune off 2 side shoots.. The plant will produce many more

      So sorry to hear that .. The plant is definitely under stress.. Try to increase the fertilizer and the calcium keep repeating fertilizer every 2 weeks.. Another issue could be your watering is off.. If the temperature is below 80° every 2 to 3 days water.. If it's above 80° I would water every 1 to 2 days lightly in the morning or the evening time... Use a 10 10 10 fertilizer And add this to increase the calcium.. amzn.to/3VDkqRh (Amazon #ad

    Thank you for your information; I'm glad I came across this teaching; I' growing regular and Acorn squash in a large garden tub in my west facing front yard to see how they would do; unfortunately we have had a major heat wave 100-103 here on the front range of Colorado; the plants completely wilted and look dead! This morning we moved them under our shade in the front yard but plenty of light; now after soaking them...because the soil seemed dry the leaf's have turned yellow :{ is there anything I can do for this or just not water for a week or so? This is my first year planting in large containers! Makes me sad that I did this to them! Any comments that would help would be appreciated, thank you and God bless.

    • @Greentgarden
      @Greentgarden День тому

      I am very sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the temperature is very high And normally it stresses out the plant and the first sign will be yellow leaves at the bottom.. If the soil is dry I would water lightly every morning. If you water too much, I will skip maybe one day because in a container soil will dry the water up very fast.. 100 plus degrees. It's really good to water lightly once a day... With high temperature it's very hard to control the watering and also the plant will losing some of their fruit will turn yellow .. Just keep trying the water and add fertilizer every 2 weeks. Once the weather calms down your plant will produce in the well...

    Recently, I'm trying to feed every week, as I read that cucumbers are "super-feeders". I am on the second week of it, so no conclusive report RE efficacy is available yet. I'm seeing more and more lantern fly nymphs around the vine and leaves; sigh. Just killing manually. Worried they are contributing to some plant deaths I've had (two). I started with 8 (actually bought nine, but only 8 made it home) plants to distribute through 2 "grow boxes". Following their planting pattern, I was going to put 6 in one (dubious, but okay), and 3 in second box (what I assessed the growing area and reservoir can accommodate). Promptly, two died from the denser box, leaving three--they were smaller, but I think I did not realize how much smaller; I think they had not been properly hardened-off, and I did not have the judgment born of experience to realize it. About 9-9 days ago, we suffered a pretty devastating groundhog raid on the lower box; following that one of the vines started with an "organic, whitish show" near the base that you only see when you notice all the leaves have wilted. I think it suffered animal damage (or insect) that allowed a disease or mildew to take hold. In the second box, one of the plants also succumbed, though it is on a whole different level (two-floored deck). This supports the insect-related hypothesis, or, I realize, I may have spread the disease myself, as I was only clean my pruners once a day, before storing them. Well, I digress. I'm getting about 1-2 fruits a day, so there is that. And my first tomato started ripening, finally. I am very curious about your lower-height cucumber trellis in front. And what, if anything you are thinking of doing for a superstructure to support the vines beyond 7'. Some of mine are already beyond that height, and I have a simple 2" x 2" spanning my posts for the only thing up there; it seems to me that it will have the vine trail at too sharp an angle; I don't want to pinch flow or promote breakage. Is it your experience that your vines will not reach much higher than the trellis you are currently using?

    • @Greentgarden
      @Greentgarden День тому

      I'm very sorry to hear all that but I'm really happy that your tomatoes Are getting ripe. on the trellis once the plant reaches 7 ft I kind of guide it to come back down... I missed 2 days in the garden. The only thing I did was to water today. I realized I lost couple plants like my sunflower got broken the heavy wind and thunderstorm last night and it's still windy today.. Heading in the garden right now. Trying to fight some bugs and weeds. Also have to tie a lot of other plants... Thank you all this for sharing with us and I will do an update video on the Cucumbers and the tomatoes as they're growing too...

    Yesterday, I found a bug in my round squash plant and dug it out! I then tried the pepper water but it clogged my sprayer (did not realize it would clog- and of course hour's later I see your video, I could kick myself) So I got powder cayenne, cinnamon & turmeric (shaken together) into an unused spice container and directly sprinkled the powder all over my plants and soil under & around the plants in hopes to radiate them bugs and aphids too. They are on my tomatoes & squash only, despite having basil in the garden, legs of both plants well trimmed, nothing close to the ground, they have plenty of air flow & space. I even place aluminum foil on the leg of my squash to keep anything from borrowing back into the main stem again. I pray God will restore my plant & she can give fruit despite it all. I tried, I really, really like squash and heartbroken they are being attacked & struggling to give fruit.

      I am very sorry to hear that. I totally understand how you feel. Every year we get hit hard by the squash vine Borers.. They are very tough to keep out of the garden. The best thing I try to do is to remove the eggs right away, but we miss a day or two forget about it.. I normally use neem oil spray. I'm going to try to buy back the BT spray too as well cuz they're around right now.. If you have time, try to replant some squash and so you can eat plant. This bugs normally stick around for a month only.. Thank you for sharing with us and I wish your garden all the luck and hope the plants continue growing and produce a lot for you.. hang in there and keep up the good work you got it

      Morning time is the best time.. But if you have to work you could do it early in the evening time. Don't water too late

    Does this work on rats I saw a rat in my garden today what should I do

    • @Greentgarden
      @Greentgarden 2 дні тому

      Yes, cayenne pepper does work and if you mix it with some peppermint oil it's much stronger against rats... Try to put it around your garden

    I tried trellised squash this year using metal conduit and chicken wire as my frame. I trimmed the leaves and I used tomato clips to hold the vines up. They are producing more fruits then previous year, it is easier for the bees to polinate and easier to find bugs and their eggs. Mine are in the ground though, not in containers. I highly recommend trimming and trellising 😊

    My first time planting. Cucumbers looked great at first. Plant/leaf so dried up as if I haven't watered them in days. I guess, I didnt spray then in time. Ughhh!!

    ❤ Thank you! I’ve been keeping an eye for when the yellow/white streaks start coming in and moving towards the vine. My first grow and single stemming- my tallest plant is almost 5’ up a trellis. I’m very excited for next year to take what I learn this year 😂😂😂😂😂
